Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and a commentator working at NBC News in Washington D.C., is a television anchor. Mitchell graduated with her Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing as a child in New York City. In the year 1967, Mitchell began her career as a reporter with KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976, she joined the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). In Washington she was named general reporter by NBC News a year later. She started covering the White House in 1981 and was named chief correspondent for the congressional office by the year 1988. She was promoted to Chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as the chief Foreign Affairs correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV show Meet the Press and also host of the show. She also served as a panelist in the presidential debates in 1988 between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell has a husband, Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 from the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 for her contribution in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell covered news from the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988, between the terms of Ronald Reagan's second term as president. Mitchell reported on a variety of noteworthy stories, such as the Iran-contra scandal and tax reform. Mitchell traveled with President Ronald Reagan throughout his numerous trips to world summits and reported extensively.
