She starred on the FX criminal comedy Fargo's initial season. Fargo is a remake of 1996 Coen brother's film by the same title. It stars veteran actors Bob Odenkirk, Martin Freeman and Billy Bob Thornton. Tolman was praised for her portrayal of Minnesota the policeman Molly Solverson. Vanity Fair reported that Tolman, "calmly" and "assuredly" took over the show. Tolman won a Critics' Choice Television Award in the category of Best Supporting Actress in Films/Miniseries. Also she was nominated for Best Actress were received at the Emmy Awards as well as the Golden Globes. Tolman's guest role in The Mindy Project, playing romance writer Abby Berman for two episodes, was announced the same. The actress was the support character in Michael Douglas' horror comedy film Krampus.
